Get together for Colette...

Sisters,

We caught wind of a number of large "sub for santas" that are happening for Colette and the kids so we have decided to postpone the gathering we had set for this Wednesday. We have a few ideas in the works for things we might do after Christmas and will keep you posted as we have more details.

For now I suggest that you donate in one of the following ways:

1) Donate through fast offerings to the Bishop. (Sis. Allen or the Bishop can clarify how the tithing slip needs to be filled out).
2) The primary presidency is putting together a basket filled with gift cards and other notes that will be delivered to Colette this week. If you would like to add to it, get your gift card to Nina Jackson.
3) Donate to the Brian D. Buttars fund through Zions Bank.

I know there are so many who have HUGE hearts and want to help! We will keep you posted in the coming weeks as things settle down and we decide what we can do as sisters.

Thanks ladies! You are all fantastic!

What a wonderful way to start the season... What a great gift!!!

As a part of his doctoral studies, John Hilton III is "studying what happens when books are made available for free." He worked with "Deseret Book and they have made 8 of their books available for free." They can all be downloaded at http://deseretbook.com/free. Several of the books are ones you might be interested in. The books are:

LDS/Deseret book ~ books that you can download for free.

Deseret Book has made 8 of their books available for FREE DOWNLOAD at tp://deseretbook.com/free. The books are:
1. Please Pass the Scripture (by me - John Hilton III).
2. What I Wish I Would Have Known When I Was Single (by John Bytheway).
3. Women at the Well (by Richard and Jeni Holzapfel).
4. Digging Deeper (by Robert Eaton).
5. 10 Secrets Wise Parents Know (by Brent Top and Bruce Chadwick).
6. Growing Up: Gospel Answers About Maturation and Sex (by Brad Wilcox).
7. Saving Kristen (by Jack Weyland). (fiction)
8. The Hidden Path (by C.B. Andersen). (fiction).

I recommend that you go download them all and save them for future reference as they will only be available online for free for a short time.

Could you forward this information on to others who might be interested? I want to help share these great, free resources with as many people as possible. Some of the books help you get more out of the scriptures. Others are good for parenting. Some are just plain fun. Go check out http://deseretbook.com/free. I hope you like the books!

Please

give my regards to the Buttar's family. Something like this brings life into perspective and I'm very grateful for everything I have and for the truth in the gospel. There is a scripture (somewhere in D&C?) that declares, "I will fight your battles..." How else do we cope through tragedy? Please pass along a hug- there are certainly no words.

Thanks too for letting me follow some of you through blogging. It's always fun. If you'd like to see how big, beautiful, and incredibly funny Copper is, you're welcome to follow our blog!

Formula Coupons...thanks!!!

Thanks to all who have been passing your Enfamil coupons my way! It has been SOOOOO helpful. If you have any more that are not being used please call me. Thanks!

Eating Right at Fox Hollow

Some of our fabulous neighbors were involved with Eat Right Night at school this week. You can read the Tribune's article about it here. Despite the fact that I was mentioned in the article, I really did very little but others worked very hard to make it a great night. Kudos to Daniella and thanks to many others for volunteering, too.

Balloon Dilemna

Was wondering if anyone had any idea how to get a balloon out of my ceiling fan. It was on when Savannah let a balloon go and the string got tangled. It wouldn't be a huge issue, but for those of you that aren't familiar with my livingroom, the fan is about 20 feet up. My ladder doesn't go that high.

Book Club

The November book club meeting had to be changed to Thursday, November 12th. It is still at Debbie Marriotts at 8pm. The book, in case you didn't know, is Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. I checked out a copy from the AF library and I still have it if anyone wants to borrow it and read it. It didn't take me long to get through it so there is still time.

Huggies Diaper Product Coupon

Here is a link to print a $2 off Any Huggies Diaper Product (this includes wipes). For a tub of wipes at Wal-Mart is $2.37 so they would end up being $0.37. Kelly and I figured it out, and it's cheaper to buy the tub rather than the refills. Even if you buy them from a grocery store, they will only be around $0.60 which is still an awesome deal!!! You can print up to 2 coupons per computer.

Adult Religion Class Resources

Brother Holzapfel has created a web site that is for his Adult Religion Class that he teaches at BYU on Wednesday's night.

This fall semester is on "From Manuscript to Printed Page: The Story of Our Modern Scriptures." He is taking 3 weeks and covering each of the Standard Works. For example the first class was "What is the Bible" where he covered how the books were gathered together and who wrote what books. He has great handouts on this class such as: Old Testament Terms, Semitic Languages, 1611 King James Version. The next class "From Manuscript to Publication: Our English
Bible," and the next class was, "Great Truths of the Bible." Each the Standard Words will have the basic same topics.

There has always been great quotes that we have asked for the references and he has amazing power point presentations on some of the nights. So he has created this web site that he puts on each week with his "handouts" and "power point" for us to look at when we are home. The "handouts" are the quotes with the references that he uses during class. This way he can save the school money by not printing them each week for 350 people, and he realizes that (and gave us permission) to tell all of our family and friends about the site.

The website is:
arc.byu.edu

So enjoy and have fun!

Gwen

Cornstalks and Halloween costumes

From Linda E.

I have about 12 bundles of cornstalks and one scarecrow. These are free and already tied in bundles. The scarecrow is old, but still kind of cute. Anyone can just come by and pick up all they want. The cornstalks are located by the side of my driveway.
Also, Halloween is just around the corner. My daughter Sarah (Savannah's mom) is needing to earn some income from home. She is an expert seamstress. She will make Halloween costumes for between $10 and $25, depending on the difficulty of the costume. She has some patterns, but you would just need to get the pattern (if she doesn't have one) and the fabric, trim, etc. to her and she will make the costume. She is very good and very fast.
Sarah Budenieks (pronounced - Boo-den-iks -- fun for Halloween, huh?) email is buggiesmama@gmail.com. Mine is lae1013@gmail.com.

Family Dinner Time

Last week's Enrichment was great, though Copper thought it would be funny to be distractive. I wanted to share a few social-worky thoughts about the importance of family dinner time. Sitting down together, especially when your kids are teenagers, is a significant factor in preventing drug/alcohol use, depression, eating disorders, and sexual activity. It is also a significant contributor to academic performance and having your kids feel comfortable talking to parents about what is going on in their life. Most families don't have a hard time finding stuff to talk about during dinner, but most families I work with do. So I have a list of 120+ family conversation questions that are really fun. If you'd like a copy just email me at cassiehelferich@gmail.com. Sorry for the lesson on functional family life... :)

For anyone that would like to try coupons ( or anyone that wants extras for that matter), I have coupon bones for whoever would like to come by and pick them up. There were 3 inserts this week: Red Plum, Procter&Gamble, & SmartSource so there are still quite a few I didn't use.

Awesome Deal on Diapers

So, just a little FYI for anyone wanting a really good deal on diapers..... Right now Smith's has their brand diapers (jumbo pack) on sale for $5.96 a pack. Well, there is a website that allows you to print up to 2 $3 off coupons, which makes the diapers $3.16 per pack which includes tax. For some reason their computer will only scan 1 coupon per transaction, so you'll have to do 2 separate transactions. Anyhow, go to www.pinchingyourpennies.com and scroll down until you see this picture, and there will be a link to click on that will let you print the coupons. If you don't already have coupon printer installed on your computer then you'll have to download it, but it will take you through the steps. It's way easy!!! Hope this is helpful.

Book Fair!

It's Book Fair time! The Book Fair will be Oct. 6-9 this year. We are in need of volunteers to help out for 2-3 hours at a time. You can sign up for as few or as many shifts as you would like. This is a great way to help our school and the community. This is a great time to help because you are able to bring your smaller children with you. On the other hand, we had a sister come help out last year and she doesn't even have children going to Fox Hollow! I have attached a link to the schedule below so hopefully you can get to it and sign up (if I did everything right!) If it doesn't work, leaves me a comment here or call me!

I really appreciate all the help we get from our ward with the Book Fair!

Ward Primary Party

A quick reminder about the primary party this Saturday. The kids can come with their bikes, scooters, wagons, etc. decorated in the primary colors of Red, Yellow & Blue to the cul-de-sac on 700 W at 10:00 am. We will break up into groups and "parade" around the ridge going to different "stations" (houses) along the way. Parents are welcome to sit out along the parade route. We will end up back in the same cul-de-sac for some refreshments and end about 11:15. We look forward to seeing all the kids there!

Workshop and Book Signing

Hey everyone!

I hope you are having a wonderful week, wherever you are. I wanted to let you know about a workshop I will be presenting on Saturday, October 3rd to kick-off the release of a book I have just completed. The topic is “Embracing Positive Body Image” and I will be doing a book signing directly afterward. The workshop is the weekend of General Conference during the Priesthood session - the perfect time for a “girl’s night”! If you have any questions or would like a copy of the flyer with more information, let me know.

Talk to you soon,

Book Club Retraction

So I just found out that Enrichment is on the 22nd, so book club will be Thursday, Sep 24th, at 8 pm at my house. As I mentioned before, I have a copy of the book available to lend.

What we do

I love Hollie's idea of sharing our talents & skills with one another. It gives a chance to support one another even more. Here's what the Meiners' can do:
Jared is a great fixer. He can fix almost anything electronic - toys, computers, DVD players, etc. He also sells exercise equipment at half of retail - treadmills, ellipticals, etc. and he can do repairs on those types of machines. He's finished a basement before so he can mud, tape, wire, etc. For work, he does electrical and computer engineering
I like to do a lot of things, but I'm not an expert in any of them! I'm more than happy to help someone with sewing, canning, couponing, or scrapbooking. I like to try new recipes, so I have a lot of quick and easy favorites. I teach preschool and I love math (until you get into the calculus stuff).

Book Club

Just a reminder that book club is at 8pm on Tuesday, Sep. 22nd, at my house. The book is "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins. I really enjoyed it -- it was written in 1860 by a colleague of Charles Dickens. Portions of the book are written by different characters -- very intriguing! I have a copy of the book available if anyone would like to borrow it. However, you are more than welcome to come to "book club" even if you haven't read the book. I've done that more than once myself :) It's fun just to get together and visit! ~Elizabeth Lasson

Candidates for Mayor

Vaughn and I have had quit a bit of involvement with the Lehi Mayor and City Council in regards to the SR-92 construction. We have felt that the voice of the people has not been heard during our countless meetings with our elected city officials. It has been a frustrating process as we have seen the construction plans progress with little regard for our concerns. As such, we are endorsing Bert Wilson for Lehi City Mayor. He is a personal friend and a wonderful person. He has grown up in the Lehi area and has served the community for many years in various capacities and wants to be involved in the progress of the city. He is also mindful of the citizens in our area unlike some of the officials and shares our concerns. I am just passing this information along as I know it is sometimes hard to know how to cast your vote. This is a good man with a kind, generous heart. Be sure to vote in the primary election this month! -- Jan Beames

Halloween Costumes

We have a green alien from Toy Story (sz4), a orange & yellow fish (sz2) from Babystyle, I think, a orange & purple furry monster from Costco (sz 4), a spider (12mos.) and a mom size Maleficent.

Just One More Thing

I thought of one more item I wanted to throw out. I was talking with some of the neighbors about how little we know about the trades and professions of everyone in the ward. I always kick myself when I have given business to someone else and find out someone in the ward is in the same industry. So let's share our professions, skills, trades, etc. with each other so we are all in the know and can support each other even better! Post what you or you husband does if ya want! My husband Casey Hansen is a Mortgage Broker.

Thanks, Hollie Hansen

Halloween Costumes

Hi ladies! I know it's a little early to be thinking about Halloween, but I thought maybe earlier would be better as far as looking for Halloween costumes. I know that things are tight with the economy and thought that maybe we could all do some costume swaps this year! I have several costumes from the past years that I am willing to lend to others and if anyone else has some that they are willing to lend out, then please post what you have and let's make Halloween a little easier on our pocket books! (No cutting on the candy though :))

I have young girls ages 3-6 princess dresses, a 6-8 year old Elizabeth swan pirate costume, 3-5 year old Jojo (Jojo's circus), size 6 Dorothy, a size 3 buzz lightyear costume, size 12month Tinker Bell, and adult size Mr. & Mrs. Incredibles.

Let me know! Hollie Hansen

Looking for a couple more preschool students

I started preschool this week, but I'd still like to have 2-3 more in each class. (I guess with Jared getting laid off today, it's more than a 'like to' at this point! :) ) If you know of anyone in the area looking for preschool, please pass my number along! Thanks! 801 400-0443

Anybody want an Entertainment Book?

Fox Hollow Elementary is selling Entertainment Books ($20) and Sally Foster products (gift wrap, etc for $20 or less) for their fundraiser through Sept. 17. If you would like any of these products, see a school-age family near you.

October Book Club Book

Ok, so my dog decided to nibble on my library copy of "Sylvester" (Georgette Heyer), the book selection for October. So, since it was the only copy the library had (oops, sorry) and I have now had to buy it, anyone is welcome to it. As soon as I am finished reading it (probably by today or tomorrow), I will be giving it to Kristen Gibson to read. Please call her if you would like to be next in line to read it. It's a good story (good job Heather!) and I am sure you will all enjoy it. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone. (The dog, by the way, has been grounded).

I love to see the temple...

Our focus in Stake Conference this month was "temples" so we decided that our family night would also be focused there. The kids wanted to take pictures of the temple and each other...pretty funny! I am grateful that our family will be together forever because Tyler and I were married and sealed together in the temple. We are working hard to teach our kids about the temple and how important it is to stay clean so they can someday enter! They love driving to the temple and walking around the grounds...it was beautiful tonight!

Looking for a job...

Alix Jolley has graduated from high school and is looking for a job to help pay for college. She has 1 year experience as a media aide in the Lehi High School library and has taken Accounting classes in high school. She has also worked as an after-school tutor. She has not had a formal job before, but what she lacks in work experience, she makes up for in enthusiasm!

School Volunteer Opportunities

We would love to have your help for just a few hours on one of these 3 projects. If you can help, please let me know. Thank you! Mary A.

Hearing Screening

Wednesday September 2nd 9am-noon

Vision Screening

Wednesday September 9th 9am-noon

We need 22 volunteers! That is not a type-o! The school nurse has
asked for 22 volunteers to help check for possible vision impairments
in students. Those of you who helped last year remember we weren’t
there quite until noon, and this year we have fewer students so it
should go faster! Anyone who can help, it will be GREATLY appreciated!

Red Ribbon Week

The Week of October 19-23rd

We are in need of someone to help be in charge of Red Ribbon Week.
Also, we need volunteers to help with activities throughout the week.
We already have an assembly lined up with Miss Utah USA coming to
speak to the children. It’s really low-stress, but is very important
to the children in our school.
